About Mike Mahoney


Mike is an award-winning writer and veteran business-communications professional with more than 15 years of advertising, PR and marketing experience. His career includes both strategic and creative responsibilities on behalf of dozens of local, national and international accounts.

Mike left the ad agency business in 1999 to become a full-time, independent writer, editor and creative consultant. He has provided both client-direct and outsourced services for companies in a broad range of industries, including technology, e-commerce, fast food, healthcare, medical devices, financial services and transportation.

Educator and Active Professional

Mike serves as adjunct professor of Copywriting at Chapman University and is author and developer of the school's current Copywriting curriculum. He's also taught Chapman's Advertising Principles course and has guest-lectured at Concordia University. Outside the office, Mike is active in the Professional Communications Exchange (PCE) and has assisted the American Marketing Association, OC chapter, with marketing and membership issues. In 2004, he was invited to judge at the Healthcare PR-Marketing Association's (HPRMA) advertising awards show.

Award-Winning Writer

Mike has been honored with several industry copywriting awards, including an MMA (Medical Marketing Association) In-Awe Gold Award, a PRSA (Public Relations Society of America) PROTOS award, an OC Ad Club award and a Business Marketing Association award (formerly the West Awards) for business-to-business advertising.

Marketing and Technology Manager

Prior to his ad agency career, Mike was a corporate manager for Intergraph, a multi-billion dollar, Fortune 500 CAD/CAM systems provider. He was also marketing manager for a document-imaging solutions company and for two water- and energy-conservation consulting firms. A top graduate of the U.S. Navy's Advanced Electronics Program, Mike served the country as a senior Data-Systems specialist and division leader aboard the guided-missile frigate, John A. Moore.
